At CES this year, SteelSeries introduced their newest competitive mouse: The Rival 700. Lets take a look.
Now, you may be asking yourself “What is that +85% on the side of my mouse? Is it battery life? No, I can see a cable…what is it?” That, my friends, is the new customizable OLED display. It allows you to access on-the-fly sensitivity settings, in-game statistics, button mapping, and personalize the display with your gamer name or favorite team’s logo.
That all seems well and good, but I can’t imagine that when I’m rocketing towards the mega health in Lava Tombs that I would notice on the thumb side of my mouse that I have only 10 armor. It is a cool display, but how practical it is is still in the air.
It also is equipped with two swappable cables so that gamers can choose the best cable for their battlestation. One of the cables (the longer of the two) is braided and the shorter being non braided. Modular sensors ensure you always have the form factor you want and sensor you need.
Gamers can also swap out the top cover and choose between different materials and designs. A mouse with customization is really nice; I just wish there was a weight management system so users could adjust the weight of the mouse as well.
Finally, the Rival 700 features an alert system to let you know different things in-game, like when a cooldown is up. This is also fully customizable, from intensity to vibration patterns.
While it is not available to order as of this writing and no price has been announced, the Rival 700 looks like a great mouse and, even though it has a weird OLED display that I don’t understand the need for quite yet, I still look forward to getting hands-on with this mouse and taking it for a spin (my current mouse is dying and its time for a upgrade anyways, Hit me up Steelseries, thanks).
