Recore is an action-adventure game being developed by Armature Studios and Comcept set to launch on September 13th on both Xbox One and Windows 10. This, to my knowledge, is also the first game in Microsofts new “Cross-Buy” system. Is this game worth the $40 entree fee? I have no idea but lets at least talk about it for a minute.
When I first saw Recore was the Microsoft E3 2015 press conference. The video posted above actually. We laughed and referred to it as the “Robot Tummy” game for a while but without gameplay, we really had nothing else to go on. I like a good announcement trailer as much as the next guy but until I see gameplay it’s just flash and sparkles (especially for a brand new IP).
Now, with less than a month until release what have we learned about Recore? Let’s start with a brief plot summary from the Recore website. “You are Joule Adams, a young survivor of a terrible cataclysm who journeys from Earth to the desert world, “Far Eden” to build mankind’s new home. But when Joule wakes after centuries in cryo-sleep, nothing has gone according to plan… With her “Corebot” companion, Mack, Joule begins an adventure to unlock secrets from the past, defeat powerful foes, and bring new life and hope to Far Eden.”
As far as gameplay is concerned, the game looks like a fun adventure game. I like the idea of switching out robot tummies for new robots with unique abilities and even the crafting sound like it could be fun with the ability to share your creations online with other Recore people.
I don’t feel Recore does anything groundbreaking or innovative or any other buzzword you want to throw at it. I just feel like it looks like a fun $40 game that will provide me with entertainment. That’s all it needs to do really, games don’t have to always be these epic sagas that redefine the genre, sometimes you just get fun games and Recore feels just like that to me right now, a fun game.
